Resurrection is a full-sensory experience; indeed, each chapter is framed around the theme of the six Buddhist senses: Sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch and mind. Go to Full Review

Resurrection abandons all notions of space and time to deliver a major cinematic event that draws on cinema history while simultaneously prompting us to reflect on our own human history. Go to Full Review

Those who found "Long Day" somewhat impenetrable will be even more baffled by this exquisite-corpse structure of cryptic, successive narratives. Taken as pure phantasmagoria, however it achieves a level of aesthetic sumptuousness that’s its own reward. Go to Full Review

Resurrection stands out because it focuses less on the mechanical aspects of what makes films and filmmaking essential and more on the spiritual nature of cinema and why this art form influences us so much. Go to Full Review

Grace M 3d Jackson is really good in the movie. See more Steph B @gotham-movie-lover 3d Resurrection is a captivating cinematic feast for the eyes. The sets, the lighting & direction, the saturation of color and shadow are a master class. However, the story is confusing and tedious at best, the subtitles go by too fast to read them all, the film is unnecessarily long, and it misses on its ability to emotionally pull the viewer towards any of the characters. See more Ian W. @iwaldman 4d Is all film art? That is the question. This film is art. That is a statement. Resurrection is a six part story each one focusing on one of the six buddhist senses (the mind being the 6th). What we really have here are a collection of short stories threaded together by an initial premise. I found this to be preferable because as you appreciate each story individually, simultaneously you have another layer to explore them on when you try to put them together. A mind puzzle that, frankly, many will find frustrating and unappealing, but I found it to be worth the ride. After all, its been a while since we’ve had a sci-fi, genre bending, anthology It must be emphasized how different each of the six parts are from one another in every way, whether that be tone, style time period etc. On a side note, this film has a beautiful score that also evolves from part to part. While some of the parts were very demanding on the viewer, others were easier to digest. I thought the director Bi Gan was conscious of this and made some very wise decisions with how he decided to structure this film. This film is not for everyone and it’s not a straightforward narrative, but if you feel up to the task, watch this film and give it the time it deserves. It can be watched in six parts, but it’s best consumed whole. It’s an abstract painting depicting what could be describe as a fever dream, riding the tracks of your emotions straight through your mind and stopping at your heart. When you come to the end, you are bound to feel something, regardless of you understood everything that unfolded before you. See more Read all reviews
