The Muppets perform the classic Dickens holiday tale, with Kermit the Frog playing Bob Cratchit, the put-upon clerk of stingy Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Caine). Other Muppets -- Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie Bear and Sam the Eagle -- weave in and out of the story, while Scrooge receives visits from spirits of three Christmases -- past, present and future. They show him the error of his self-serving ways, but the miserable old man seems to be past any hope of redemption and happiness.

Vastly enjoyable despite the syrupy, soppy song bit in the middle (go make a glass of mulled wine during it). Michael Caine is perfect in the role and there are many genuine belly laughs.

A Christmas classic! Director Brian Henson captures his father Jim Henson's warm spirit with his brilliant take on Charles Dickens' classic novel. The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) is a holiday season favorite of mine. The pace is quick, the songs are memorable, the writing is funny, but also heartfelt, and the puppetry is masterful as always with the Muppets. Michael Caine is fantastic as Scrooge. His greed, cruelty, and malice is self-evident. Then, his turn into the kind and caring man of the past, present, and future is something to behold. I think Caine really nails the tears in the eyes performance necessary for adding warmth to Scrooge's tricky character. He truly gives a phenomenal performance here. I think every family should watch The Muppet Christmas Carol each Christmas time annually. It is as fun and humorous with the same depth every time I revisit it.
