When their beloved dog Merv loses his spark after their split, Anna and Russ are forced into the world's most awkward co-parenting arrangement. Hoping to shake Merv out of his funk, Russ takes him to Florida for a much-needed getaway--only for Anna to show up unexpectedly. As it is, Merv is slight and sweet and entirely to expectations. Making a movie about co-parenting a dog is not a bad idea -- though I wouldn’t say it’s a great one, either.

The script is perfectly gentle but isn't funny. Worst of all, because Merv is sad, he does nothing but lie down and whine, which means even dog-lovers may be bored - and a little dispirited.

A movie about a dog where the dog barely has a cameo appearance! …and the bit about unable to have children does not belong in a family/kid movie, in my opinion.

Merv is a comedy around a dog and their two owners who have seperated. Think of the movie The Parent Trap but with a dog instead of daughters. The movie features some funny scenes but mostly is forgettable. This is a shame since the movie features a strong cast with Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox. The real star of the movie here is the dog but even they could not carry this film. Merv gets a low 2 stars out of 5 from me.
