THIS IS NOT A REBOOT. It is an entirely original comedy, inspired by the cinematic 'classic' "Anaconda", that features Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd), who have been best friends since they were kids and always dreamed of remaking their all-time favorite movie. When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation.

Critics Consensus

The premise might be ripe for a raucous action-comedy, but this meta reboot of Anaconda can't detach its jaws wide enough to swallow so many conflicting tones.

Anaconda is inspired and silly and even advocates, just as "Marty Supreme" does, for all of us to dream as big as you can even when the odds are stacked against you. "Anaconda" will make you laugh and then slither its way into your heart. Go to Full Review

As an unabashed lover of grindhouse and genre fare, it’s an insult to me when a movie repeatedly states that it knows it’s not good. That’s not a creative idea, for starters, but it’s also aggravating. Go to Full Review

Beyond that core scenario and a couple in-jokes, director and co-writer Tom Gormican’s movie does not send up or satirize showbiz whatsoever. Go to Full Review

The meta-reboot Anaconda is absurdly funny and purely harmless fun. Go to Full Review

Anaconda, which aims to be a comedy and has the right cast for it, but is about as funny as being bitten by a poisonous snake. Go to Full Review

If you like Rudd and Black, Anaconda is a harmless trifle that isn’t a bad way to pass the time over the holidays, given its "amusing enough" nature. But it also feels like a missed opportunity to do something more wild and clever with its meta narrative. Go to Full Review
