Two highly-trained operatives (Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy) are appointed to posts in guard towers on opposite sides of a vast and highly classified gorge, protecting the world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within. They bond from a distance while trying to stay vigilant in defending against an unseen enemy. When the cataclysmic threat to humanity is revealed to them, they must work together in a test of both their physical and mental strength to keep the secret in the gorge before it's too late.

It's a tough balance to strike and I don't think the sci-fi part works as well as [the romance]. The two [actors] have a lot of chemistry and look great together, the film looks great, and the score is great.

The special effects are quite good, but “The Gorge” doesn’t scale the goofy heights in a rollercoaster ride way that it thinks it does, stalling out with a hackneyed ending that makes you shrug your shoulders and want to move on to something better.

For a movie like this to excel, the creators have to thread a very specific needle. The romance has to spark. The monsters have to be terrifying. The mystery needs to be fully engaging. Unfortunately, The Gorge is halfway there in all three facets.

Hooked by the gorge mystery and two operatives surviving alone in towers (love isolation stories). Friendship to romance slowed pacing and got boring in parts. Action/horror reveal is fun with great visuals and scares. Miles Teller & Anya Taylor-Joy have good chemistry. Biggest issue: explanation (super-soldier experiments, greedy corps) is super familiar. The storyline for a sci-fi is pretty generic. As a scifi lover I go to the genre for intriguing and new ideas. This one mostly makes a double bet on scifi and romance. Also a bit tired of Ania Taylor Joy being type casted, finding her character quite flat. It was entertaining but not double-watcher. Fast food type of scifi.
