What to Know

Critics Consensus

A change of venue -- and more sentimentality and violence -- can't obscure the fact that Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is a less inspired facsimile of its predecessor.

Culkin is breezily winning once again as the self-reliant kid alone, while Pesci and Stern deserve combat metals (especially Stern) to the bricks and slings they endure. Go to Full Review
Janet Maslin New York Times 06/11/2019
It's much more violent than the first film's comparable set of dirty tricks. And Kevin, removed from his embattled home, seems much more cavalier, possibly even meaner than his bullying older brother, Buzz (Devin Ratray). Go to Full Review

The pleasures here are entirely cruel, with an unhealthy concentration on the suffering of the victims, on the thudding impact of various objects against their heads, on their howls of agony. Go to Full Review

Just when it appears this can’t get any worse, along comes America's favorite white supremacist in a pointless cameo. Go to Full Review

Sorely lacks the situational specificity and just the vague whiff of 'this could actually happen' from the previous film. Go to Full Review

Shannon F @Shannyleigh 3h Home alone 2 is one of the best sequels to exist in my opinion See more Mark A @MarkSydney 17h Great Christmas classic. The previous rating seems to muss the point. First of all this movie is over 30 years old. Tastes, humour and film have changed a lot since 1992. The movie is excellent for adults who remember enjoying this as a child. It brings back nostalgia. It's not a serious movie, it's not trying to be clever, and there are clear elements of slapstick (skeleton scene for example). It should just be enjoyed for what it is, and is a clear follow-on from the first with some obvious nods and winks in its intentional repetition and framework. Watching it as a grown adult 30 years after it was released and saying how it's not relevant or how urealistic it is, is somewhat missing the point and incredulous in itself. Great movie for it's time and for those who don't see it as being a serious movie. See more Monika H @Moviemadness290 22h Just saw 1 and 2 for first time—have seen clips in the past. Was charmed by 1, and bored and angry at the laziness of the writing for 2. Just a repeat of 1 but no one is older and wiser. Just so much unreal set up, totally incredulous and the tricks were equally incredulous. It’s a movie for young children, not to be enjoyed by adults with any experience of how the world works and for those who like to use their brains. Also Culkin seemed as creepy as the bad guys. See more CIS - @ally_ebaz 1d It revisits familiar ideas from the first film, its energy and festive spirit make it a fun family watch. See more Isaac K. @isaackrawiec11 2d Great classic movie See more malcolm t @malcolmtaplin 3d It is really brilliant. The only thing is that it is essentially a reskinned version of the first film, but to me that isn't a problem. The traps are more funnier, and the acting is top-notch. I recommend this.
